Last week the Minister of finance announced that the social grant will increase from R380 to R400 on 1 April and R410 on 1 October. Gigaba also announced that VAT will increase from 14% to 15%. The DA's say that R410 is not enough because other families use social grant not only buy food but to pay for school necessities and transport. The DA's says the VAT increase is "anti-poor" and that "Gigaba’s absurd argument that the vulnerable would be protected through 'zero-rating basic food items and above average increases in grants' proves that he has no idea how poor people in our country struggle each and every day just to put food on the table."
yes, the government needs to consider other needs. As the VAT had increased, goods will also increase therefore government will have to increase grant.
The increase in social grants is good but I believe it also encourages people from poor backgrounds to do nothing but continue depending on it while they could change their situations through education.
DA says what? The increase in social grants is a good step and it doesn't have to be "enough" social grants are no commission and therefore it is a privilege that we are not really meant to claim from the government
The increase in social grant will be a good help in less fortunate families but it will also encourage them to relax and be totally dependant on this money.
The increase in social grants is good and bad on the other side as it motivates people to acquire as much children as they can just to be entitled on higher income, thus increasing birth rate which is one of the things that holds back our economical development as a country.
People must understand that this grant money is also tax payers money.... so where should the extra that DA is talking about come from? The sky perhaps??
I think the increase will be good for the poor households and I also think that the country can not afford this increase

ReplyDeleteThe increase in social grant is not a good thing because that will increase pregnancy rate which is quite a good thing .
ReplyDeleteYeah its not good at all but in other homes they need it because unemployment is too high.
DeleteIncrease in the tax rate will make prices of necessities increase

ReplyDeletePregnancy rate will also increase
ReplyDeleteThe increase in social grant is a good step Gigaba has taken, I fully support him on that because there are families out there who need that money.
ReplyDeleteit is a good thing though since social grant has also increased.

I'm happy about the grant increase as it will stimulate the living standards of the poor and even reduce poverty to some certain extent.
